Your Safety Comes First

Your safety is our top priority.

While we hope you never face violence or unsafe conditions at work, it’s essential to be prepared for any situation that may arise. This section of the handbook highlights key aspects of maintaining a safe environment both on and off the job. Please take the time to familiarize yourself with this information to ensure your safety at all times.

Our goal is for everyone to return home safely at the end of each workday. Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) plays a crucial role in creating and sustaining a safe work environment. EH&S oversees a range of programs, including biological safety, fire safety, industrial hygiene, lab safety, pest management and radiation control, among others.

Accidents can happen, but prompt reporting is vital. If you sustain an injury, report it immediately so we can address your needs and identify any ongoing hazards that might pose a risk to others. You or your supervisor should report the injury by calling 1-800-455-2079, and make sure your supervisor is informed. For the latest guidance on handling workplace injuries, please visit the Workers’ Compensation website.

If you notice an unsafe condition, act promptly rather than waiting for an incident to occur. Report hazards to your supervisor or EH&S to help maintain a safe environment for yourself, your colleagues, and our community of students, guests and visitors.

 Pro Tip:

Don’t tough it out. If you get hurt on the job, we want to be sure you are okay. We also don’t want anyone else to get hurt in the same way. Immediately report all on-the-job injuries by calling 1-800-455-2079.
