Working Together to Stay Safe

 University of Florida Police Department

The University of Florida Police Department (UFPD) is a leading example of campus law enforcement excellence. Operating 24/7, UFPD is central to UF’s commitment to maintaining a safe and secure campus. The department, which falls under the Office of the Vice President for Business Affairs, includes both sworn law enforcement officers and civilian staff.

All UFPD officers are state-certified and professionally trained, holding the same authority as any law enforcement officer in Florida. The department offers a full range of services, such as criminal investigations, crime prevention programs, traffic enforcement, and crowd control for campus special events. UFPD also maintains strong relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to effectively manage campus safety.

In 2022, UFPD became the first campus police agency to embed a full-time co-responder program, pairing two in-house mental health clinicians with police officers to assist individuals in crisis. This innovative model was first established by UFPD and is complemented by the department’s victim advocacy services.

UFPD takes pride in its achievements, including becoming the 14th university law enforcement agency in the country to receive national accreditation in March 1996. As the first university police department in Florida to achieve this status, UFPD remains one of the largest accredited university police departments nationwide. This recognition reflects UF’s leadership in campus law enforcement and its dedication to community well-being, public service, and fostering a safe and supportive academic environment.
