Staying Substance Free

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program

The Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program (DAAPP) is designed to support you in understanding and managing the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol.

In compliance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA), as outlined in 34 CFR Part 86, UF has established and implemented a comprehensive program to address substance abuse. The DAAPP includes:

  • University Policies and Regulations: Details on UF’s stance and rules regarding substance abuse.
  • Legal Information: Local, state, and federal laws related to drug and alcohol use.
  • Health Risks: Information on the effects and risks of drug and alcohol use.
  • University Programs and Support: Resources and intervention programs available at UF.
  • Disciplinary Sanctions: Consequences for violating university policies and regulations.

Additionally, UF conducts a biennial review of the DAAPP to evaluate its effectiveness and ensure fair enforcement of disciplinary measures. The DAAPP is a collaborative effort involving GatorWell, Employee Relations, University Athletic Association, the Division of Student Life, Student Conduct & Conflict Resolution, the University of Florida Police Department, and UF Compliance and Ethics.

 Drug-Free Workplace

It’s crucial to maintain a clear and focused mind while at work. Consuming alcohol or using controlled substances or illicit drugs during work hours is strictly prohibited. While this type of misconduct is rare, it can have severe consequences and jeopardize safety. Our goal is to ensure a safe and productive work environment, free from the risks associated with substance abuse. Please read UF’s Drug-Free Workplace Statement.

 Reporting and Compliance

Under the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act, you must notify your supervisor or another designated management representative of any criminal drug statute conviction for a violation occurring in the workplace within five days of the conviction. While we hope this situation does not apply to anyone, it is important to be aware of this reporting requirement.

For more information, please read UF’s Drug-Free Workplace Statement and stay committed to working with integrity and quality.

 Tobacco-Free Campus

Second-hand smoke is harmful and unwelcome. To promote a healthier environment, UF is a tobacco-free campus. This policy applies to all indoor and outdoor areas, including university-owned and leased properties and vehicles. It covers all forms of tobacco products, including cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, e-cigarettes, vapes and chewing tobacco.

If you use tobacco products, please review the entire Tobacco-Free Campus policy to understand its details.

If you’re looking to quit, UF offers resources and support to help you. For more information and assistance, visit UF’s Tobacco-Free website.
