 Employees In Distress

If you notice an employee in distress—whether they pose a safety risk, are disruptive or simply struggling—UF Human Resources provides guidance and support to help navigate these situations. Learn how to respond appropriately and access available resources by visiting the Helping Employees in Distress webpage.

 Workplace Violence

We are committed to fostering a safe, respectful and harmonious environment for everyone—faculty, staff, students, alumni, vendors and visitors. To support this commitment, UF has implemented a Workplace Violence policy designed to prevent and address any incidents of violence or threats.

Our policy underscores the importance of maintaining a violence-free workplace. It is essential to ensure that your conduct is not perceived as disruptive, threatening or violent. Engaging in or threatening violence is strictly prohibited and will lead to appropriate responses, including disciplinary action up to termination and potentially criminal prosecution.

If you witness or experience any threatening, intimidating or violent behavior, report it immediately. Just as you would not delay contacting law enforcement in the event of a break-in, do not wait to address misconduct at work. Prompt reporting is crucial for maintaining a safe environment.

 Clery Act

The Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act (Clery Act) mandates that universities disclose information about crime occurring on campus, in campus housing, on public property near the campus and in noncampus buildings or property.

Named after Jeanne Clery, who was tragically murdered in 1986, the Clery Act aims to provide transparency about campus safety and support victims. The Act has been updated regularly to reflect changes in campus safety practices.

UF publishes its crime statistics and summaries of safety policies annually in the Annual Security and Fire Safety Reports (ASFSRs). These reports, along with information on specific crimes and emergencies, are available online at UF’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Reports.

The Clery Act requires UF to use two main types of notifications:

  • Emergency Notifications: Issued during significant emergencies or dangerous situations occurring on the campus that pose an immediate threat to the campus community.
  • Timely Warnings: Issued for Clery crimes that occur within UF’s Clery geography that present a serious or ongoing threat.

Additionally, Campus Safety Messages are sent for incidents that do not meet the criteria for the other notifications but where community awareness is beneficial.

These notifications, branded as UF Alerts, are communicated via work phone, email, text messages, social media and the GatorSafe app. We encourage all UF community members to verify their contact information and preferences in their ONE.UF profile.

 Title IX

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance. This prohibition includes sex discrimination, sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. Title IX applies to UF students, employees, and to anyone else participating in or attempting to participate in a UF program or activity.

UF’s Title IX Office is responsible for ensuring UF’s compliance with Title IX. Any UF employee who observes or otherwise learns about an incident of sexual harassment is required to report the information to UF’s Title IX Office. Reports can be submitted via the Compliance & Ethics Report Form.
