Attendance is simple — show up on time for your scheduled workdays. Make sure to request and report leave according to your department’s guidelines. If life throws you a curveball and you can’t make it to work, notify your supervisor as soon as possible. The sooner you inform them, the easier it is for your team to adjust in your absence. If your situation changes while you’re away, keep your supervisor updated.
Pro Tip:
If a perceived issue or hardship affects your ability to be at work when you are expected, you do not need to get creative in trying to come up with a solution. Instead, simply talk to your supervisor or contact the UFHR Benefits Central Leave team at central-leave@ufl.edu.
Your meal period will vary depending on your work schedule. Typically, if you work an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. shift, you’ll have a one-hour unpaid lunch break. For an 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. shift, you’ll generally have a half-hour unpaid lunch period. Your supervisor will set your meal period schedule, so check with them to confirm the details. If there’s any need for variations in your schedule, discuss them with your supervisor.
Rest breaks help maintain a productive and enjoyable workday. For every four hours worked, you’re permitted a 15-minute rest period, where possible. Use this time to step away from your workstation and refresh. However, remember that rest periods cannot be accumulated or used to adjust your workday start or end times.
By following these guidelines and exercising good judgment, you contribute to a positive work environment at UF, where everyone can thrive. Let’s work together to maintain UF as a great place to work and grow.
UF currently maintains several lactation rooms on campus. These rooms are available for all UF students, faculty, and staff, and are designed for comfort, convenience, and privacy. Lactation rooms typically have an electrical outlet, a lockable door, a comfortable chair, and a sink.
